Winterkälte was founded in 1991 by Udo Wiessmann (founder of the record label Hands Productions) and Eric De Vries.
The project has been recognized as one of the defining post industrial acts

and their early releases laid the foundations for the rhyhtm'n'noise scene.
They developed their trademark sound labeled as drum'n'noise representing a complex architecture of hypnotic rhythms

that mix with pounding beats and heavy electronics to result in a violent distorted and blurring circle of noise.
Unfortunately on Monday, October 28, 2024, Eric De Vries passed away at the age of 65,

succumbed to a brain tumor less than two years after his initial diagnosis.
