A project that started in the late 80s by Mexican female multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Margarita Saavedra.
Her work explore the experimental scene with risky blends of musical genres achieving a sonic amalgamation.
While her basic tracks feature vocals and piano, Alquima enhances her recordings with layers of looped vocals,
electronic processors, sound effects, samples, synthesizers, gongs and bells.
The result is a sound that combines the musical traditions of Latin America
with influences of avant-garde, classical and improvisational music.
Alquimia developed an early love of music and singing, partly from her mother, a classical opera singer.
She went on to study in France and Canada, before making her permanent home in England.
Although she has often been far from home, her interest in the ethnic musical styles of her home country
made her learn various pre-Columbian percussion instruments and flutes,
while her search for new sounds inspired her use of modern music technology.
Alquimia has recorded many albums, both as a solo artist and with writers and musicians such as Hans-Joachim Roedelius,
Rüdiger Gleisberg, Peter Mergener, Anton Zinkl, Mark Powell, Art Of Infinity, Carlos Robledo and others.

The Anti-Group Communications (or T.A.G.C.)  is an open-membership collaborative art and information project
formed in 1978 by Adi Newton and Steven James Turner of Clock DVA fame.
The T.A.G.C. acronym refers to the four different types of DNA Nucleotide: thymine, adenine, guanine, and cytosine.
The group's main objective was to combine interactive and mixed media art, installations,
and research on psycho acoustics and philosophical concepts to produce fascinating presentations.
The first non theoretical action devised by T.A.G.C. was the film "The Delivery", a 16mm triptych projection and soundtrack,
and the Anti theater performance "The Discussion" designed for five tape recorders and multi-video projection systems.
These two works were first presented at the "De Doelen" center in Rotterdam on Saturday, September 22nd, 1985.
"The Delivery" has been exhibited at the "2nd Atonal Festival" in "The Ballhaus Tiergarten" Berlin, Feb 18th 1985
where the soundtrack was recorded on a mobile 24 track system.
This document was released as "The Anti Group - The Delivery" on Atonal Records.
After these initial performances T.A.G.C. concentrated on audio development.
It was during this period 1985 to 1987 that the above recordings were realized
along with the highly acclaimed ambisonic album "Digitaria" which is a technological and ethnological work
based on the ideas of the Sabean cults of ancient Khem and the Dogon tribe of Mali.
Having worked through these areas, it became the next logical step to move into the application of Psychophysics
developing the use of frequencies and Psychoacoustics with computer aided technology.
Performance of these ideas took place at the "3rd Atonal Festival" at "Alte TU-Mensa" Berlin on December 13th, 1986
and "SO 36" Berlin on Feb 14th 1987 and at the "Museum Of Contemporary Art" Prato, Italy on Sept 23rd 1988.
It was at this time also that T.A.G.C. displayed their first Meontological visual experiment "Burning Water".
The recordings utilized in these performances were released as part of a series of recordings
entitled Meontological Research Recordings 1 + 2.
T.A.G.C. performances were held at the Electro-Acoustic Music Academy Stockholm, August, 23rd 1990
and at the ARS Electronica symposium on Virtual Reality held in Linz, Austria on September 8th, 1990.
Meontological Research Recordings 3 + 4 followed where Recording 3 explores the central ideas
expressed in the Coulier Noire and Recording 4 centers around the current research project
into the development of methods and techniques to aid expanded consciousness
in collaboration with R.E.S.T., SpaceTimeTanks and Relaxation Center Chicago, America.
All these psychoacoustic experiments and carefully constructed aural rituals are usually accompanied
by lengthy liner notes, explaining the theoretical underpinnings of the recordings.
In this way, T.A.G.C. presents itself explicitly as acoustic research rather than music.
Although the group disbanded in 1996, Newton continued the project with CD releases and live performances in 2009.
T.A.G.C. audio recordings are released on Newton's Anterior Research Recordings label.

Nightmare Lodge started in June 1987 as a musical project founded by Minus Habens Records / Disturbance founder
Ivan Iusco alongside vocalist B. Mazzilli and bass player Gianni Mantelli,
when the trio decided to embark on a path in search of their own dreamlike musical dimensions.
Soon they entered a small recording studio in Bari to record their first cassette "Big Mother In The Strain",
that was released on December 12, 1987 as the first publication of Minus Habens founded in the same year by Iusco.
After a few months, because of trivial disputes, the lineup was changed.
Ivan found himself completely alone deciding the Nightmare Lodge destiny.
In the meantime, he met female vocalist M. Cioce, that was selected
to be involved in two tracks on the split LP "The Oneiric Transgression / Noise And Dream",
with the Roman band Lyke Wake, the first vinyl release of Minus Habens Records in 1989.
When the album was out, M. Cioce left and B. Mazzilli returned.
Nightmare Lodge succeeded to assemble two new works across 1990 and 1991,
a split LP, " Ice Skin / The Gospel According To The Men In Black" with the band Blackhouse and a tape entitled "Asylum".
These two releases marked a long retirement period for the duo
caused by the compulsory military service that overwhelmed Ivan and B. Mazzilli.
In that time Nightmare Lodge produced only some tracks on various compilations around the world.
With the relocation of Mazzilli in Veneto in 1992 and the collaboration of Ivan Iusco with the Belgian Dirk Ivens for Dive,
the post-industrial period of Nightmare Lodge closed.
When Ivan came back from the military service he was busy in raising again his record label Minus Habens.
Due to this, the Nightmare Lodge inactivity existed until 1994.
In that year a new friendship born with the mysterious Russolo,
a very talented electronic composer passionate with horror and science fiction cinema.
A perfect union was made and since then Nightmare Lodge released a CD trilogy
("Negative Planet", "Luminescence", "The Enemy Within"),
that received considerable attention from critics and audiences in various countries.
In 1998 Nightmare Lodge composed the soundtrack (in collaboration with the Sicilian musician Paolo Bigazzi)
of the independent science fiction film "Syrena" by Mariano Equizzi
followed by two albums ("Blind Miniatures" and "Tentacled") for the U.S. label Red Stream.
In the summer of 2000, Nightmare Lodge, with guitarist Nicola Cipriani,
performed live for the first time in Calabria a soundtrack written specifically for the film "The War Of The Worlds".
Ivan Iusco has also involved with the project It and composed two songs for the sci-fi video game "Cyberpunk 2077".

Biota – Rackabones (2xLP 1985)

Country: United States

Tracklist
1. Vagabones A 26:34
2. Vagabones B 26:12
3. Rackabones A 18:08
4. Rackabones B 17:57

American experimental music ensemble that created in 1979 in Fort Collins, Colorado
under the name Mnemonist Orchestra (shortened soon after to Mnemonists).
Biota founded by fellow scientists and community radio engineers Mark Derbyshire and William Sharp
the Mnemonists ensemble of artists, musicians, and college-town bohemians.
in 1984, the group split into two collaborative factions:
a visual-arts collective, which retained the name Mnemonists, and the musical group, Biota.
Biota adheres to an unpredictable method of organizing sounds that ideally invites listeners
to imbue proceedings with their own individualized interpretations and experiences
(much like interpreting a work of abstract visual art), thereby allowing for an element of "listener composition".
Such a concept is in keeping with notions of community collaboration
and song evolution inherent in many forms of traditional folk music.
Biota-Mnemonists has taken to the stage for live performance only twice,
in 1981, at the Colorado State University art school in Fort Collins, Colorado,
and in November 1990 at the then-annual New Music America festival, held that year in Montreal, Quebec.

Shub Niggurath was a progressive rock/zeuhl band, formed in France in 1982 and consisted of Allan Ballaud (bass),
Franck Coulaud (percussion), Frank W. Fromy (guitar/percussion), Jean-Luc Hervé (harmonium/piano/organ),
Ann Stewart (vocals) and Véronique Verdier (trombone).
Their name was taken after one of the deities in Cthulhu Mythos created by the American horror writer H.P.Lovecraft.
The project was created after the bands Aspara and Gorgonus were merged together.
Ann Stewart and Franck W. Fromy from the former, Véronique Verdier, Jean-Luc Hervé and Allain Ballaud from the latter.
Drummers had to be changed often, due to the difficulty of certain compositions,
which were at times too free-form, or too strictly written at others.
Their debut album "Les Morts Vont Vite", that was released in 1986 on the Musea label,
received critical acclaim for its innovative avant-garde inclinations,
and major developments influenced by Magma's "Zeuhl" style.
Musea also reissued the album on CD in 1997, including two bonus tracks.
The debut sold well and later, one song appeared on the tribute compilation to Magma "Enneade".
After its release percussionist Franck Couland left, as did Franc Fromy.
Jean-Luc Herve, also being a guitarist, took Fromy's spot.
In the next years Shub Niggurath appeared on the compilations "Douze Pour Un Vol. 2" (1987) and "Dithrambe" (1988)
followed by a live tape with the new line up: Allan Ballaud (bass), Jean-Luc Herve (electric guitar),
Veronuque Verdier (bass trombone/percussion), new singers Sylvette Claudet and Jean-Pierre Lourdeau,
and new drummer Michel Kervinio.
Prior to the release of their second studio album, "C'étaient De Très Grands Vents" in 1991, also on the Musea label,
Jean Pierre left the band to become a painter and a new percussionist, Edward Perraud, was added.
Since then, the band has toured around Paris playing for small audiences.
In 1995 bassist Allan Ballaud passed away due to cancer an incident that put the band on a permanent hiatus.
In 2003 Musea issued their third album "Testament" which consists from archive material recorded in 1992-1994.
The label Soleil Zeuhl reissued on CD in 2009 their demo tape from 1982 entitled "Introduction" and on Vinyl in 2018.

Sechres Mound was a collaboration between Cédric Peyronnet (Toy Bizarre)
and Cyril Herry (Lecanora, Ashes To Ashes, Ninth Desert, Exotoendo)
which began in February 1995 following the discovery of an unused & monumental tank unit.
The aim was to exploit the sound potential of the place by using materials
mainly found on the site and installations built inside the one and only tank (no. D2 740m440).
New materials were brought in (PVC pipes, strings, metal bars etc.) to try out the unique reverberation of this space.
After a few weeks, the tank became a true research laboratory, full of various objects (wood pieces, cables and nails).
The purpose was to reveal the authentic sound identity of this place.
In October 1995, it was decided to release a cassette with a selection of live recorded sequences.
It was a little cardboard boxset with rust taken from the tank and the cassette inside.
80 numbered copies were released on Cédric & Cyril's own label, Cynistrose.
Each "D2 740m440" piece was improvised and recorded live on site without any external contribution or sound treatments.
Exactly ten years later, "D2 740m440" was re-released on a A5-sized carboard cover in a plastic sleeve CD-R
including the bonus track "Traumatism" that was taken from the compilation tape "Germ",
released by Incense (Cyril's own label) in 1995.

Le Syndicat is a collective entity and a former cassette label that began activities in 1982.
It is one of the leading bands in the industrial movement in France
and was created by Jean-Marie Onni (aka Ruelgo) and Zyklon B.
The project later collaborated with visual artists Zorïn and Mïrka Lugosi,
produced a lot of audio concrete cassettes and participated to a lot of "mail art" international compilations.
As a label Le Syndicat released cassettes for artists such as Merzbow, Parazite, Pacific 231, Controlled Bleeding,
Blackhouse and Dog As Master while they also had contacts,
notably with exchange of sounds and compositions by correspondence, with Japanese noise bands like The Hanatarashi.
After the departure of Zorïn and the arrival of Veidt Mjolnir, their  music is experiencing a significant change,
leaving the fields of improvisation and moving from collages, tape loops,
film samples or sequences of classical music, to prominence electronic rhythmic noise beats.
During the second half of the 1990s , the group enters into sleep and reappeared in 2010 with a new album,
this time reconnecting  with bruitism, collage and extreme dynamic forms.
"1985 - 1995 - Ten Years Of Excess" is a double compilation CD released in 1995 by Staalplaat
featuring the re-release of their cassette albums "Delikatëssen" (1985), "Relapse" (1987) and "Vorgine" (1986).

Fabio Borgazzi (24 April 1920 - 3 August 2011), also known as Fabio Fabor,
was one of the most prolific library music composers in Italy between the 1960s and 1980s.
A versatile and multi-talented musician, he explored almost all existing genres, from classical to jazz,
from pop to electronic music, and released hundreds of records through his own publishing company, Minstrel,
and its numerous sub-labels, such as World, Hard, Flam, Fonovideo and Ring.
"Pape Satan" was originally released on the Hard label in 1980 and has become a cult record,
one often regarded as a groundbreaking exploration of electronic music.
In this work Borgazzi makes extensive use of synthesizers (ARP 2600, ARP 3620, ARP Omni and Roland System 700),
percussion, keyboard instruments (piano, harpsichord, Fender Rhodes) and voices,
developing an abstract and experimental electro-acoustic soundtrack to a dark and infernal environment,
or, as Borgazzi himself explained in the liner notes, an "eschatological-Dantesque environment
caught in its side of transcendent imagination metaphysics and, sometimes, even ironic interpretation.".

Fumio Kosakai (コサカイ フミオ) – Earth Calling (1987)

Country: Japan

Tracklist
1. Absent Water 05:09
2. Drive To Universe 18:09
3. Look To The Light 22:05

First solo release from legendary artist Fumio Kosakai
that is best known from Japanese noise acts like Incapacitants and Hijokaidan.
In 1987 and 1993, Kosakai self-released two very limited cassettes (about 30 copies each),
of sublime solo electronic minimalism,  "Earth Calling" and "The Warm Garden".
"Earth Calling" was a live recording of a solo performance carried out at the free jazz venue
"Goodman" in Ogikubo, Tokyo, which ran around 1985 - 1986.
For the performance Kosakai used a self-made transmitter, a mini-keyboard Yamaha synthesizer,
cassette tapes with environmental sounds recorded and a delay-like effect.
For the two first tracks some sounds were overdubbed later on at his home,
while the third track was released as it was on the live performance.
On the track "Look To The Light" Kosakai tried to recreate the infinite repetition
that Terry Riley had performed on his album "A Rainbow In Curved Air".
Also the title of the cassette originates from the first track on the live album "Space Ritual" by Hawkwind.

Maggi Payne is an American composer, flutist video artist and co-director (since 1992) of the Center For Contemporary Music,
in Mills College, where she teaches recording engineering, composition, and electronic music.
She also freelances as a recording engineer and editor and a historical remastering engineer.
Her work involves electroacoustic, instrumental, and vocal works along with works involving visuals,
including dancers outfitted with electroluminescent wire and videos using images ranging from nature to the abstract.
She has performed throughout the world, and her work has been published on various labels.
She received two Composer's Grants and an Interdisciplinary Arts Grant from the National Endowment For The Arts
and video grants from the Western States Regional Media Arts Fellowships Program and the Mellon Foundation.
Also four honorary mentions from Bourges, and one from Prix Ars Electronica,
and was an Artist In Residence at the Exploratorium in San Francisco and the Montalvo Arts Center in Saratoga, CA.
She began recording professionally in 1968 in Chicago.
Her first electronic compositions were made using the Moog Synthesizer.
While at the University, Gordon Mumma showed her how to built her first ring modulator from one of his circuit designs.
There she also formed an improvisation group that was dedicated primarily to the exploration of timbre.
After composing electronically generated music for several years,
she turned to the acoustic world for an even richer, more constantly variable sound palette.
Sound sources were varied from tiny stepper motors, to signals traveling through space and faulty faucets.
Her process involved layering sounds, convolution, granular synthesis,
time stretching, digital signal processing, and extreme equalization.

and in 1991 was reissued on CD format featuring three bonus tracks.

Vincent Gallo (born April 11, 1961) is an American actor, director, writer, producer, musician, and model.
He has won several accolades, including a Volpi Cup for Best Actor, and has been nominated for numerous more,
including the Palme d'Or, the Golden Lion, and the Bronze Horse.
Following a childhood working for the local mafia, Gallo started his professional career as a Formula II motorcycle racer.
In the early '70s he began playing electric bass and sang in garage bands,
during which time he developed an appreciation of both prog rock and proto-punk bands.
He participated in Buffalo-based bands like Blue Mood, a progressive rock cover band named Zephyr
which did one performance at Lincoln Park Tonawanda New York in 1978,
The Good (with Bernie Kugel and Larry Galanowitz), The Detours, and the Plastics.
At the age of 16 Gallo relocated to New York City and in winter of 1979 he met Wayne Richard Clifford.
That same evening they rented a rehearsal space to improvise music together.
Wayne already a member of a industrial/noise group called Gray
asked Vincent to join the band that also featured renowned artist Jean Michel Basquiat.
Although they played regularly at such N.Y.C. hot spots as Max's Kansas City, CBGB's, Hurrahs, and the Mudd Club,
the group split up before any recordings could be made.
A short period afterwards Vincent Gallo and Wayne Richard Clifford along with Claudia Porcelli formed Bohack.
Immediately after forming Bohack the trio played one live improvised show.
After this single performance Bohack began recording
in Vincent Gallo's American Indian Studios in 1980 and continued to do so until the spring of 1981.
Gallo produced Bohack on a single track monophonic Ampex 350 recorder and a single RCA KU-3 microphone.
The album was mixed by Gallo on an ALTEC 250 SU mixer he also formed the label Family Friend Records to release it.
About 1000 copies were printed and the band sold 60 of them through Bleecker Bob's record store
and another 150 through a distributer while 500 were destroyed in a New York City fire.
In 1984 Gallo threw about 100 of them in a trash container and passed out the rest one night on St. Mark's Place, NYC.
When Bohack disbanded, Gallo turned his back on a musical career, and focused primarily on acting in movies,
landing steady work as either an actor, director, or composer.
As a filmmaker, he directed, wrote, and starred in three independent films:
"Buffalo '66" (1998), "The Brown Bunny" (2003), and "Promises Written In Water" (2010)
while also directed and starred in numerous short films and several music videos.
After including several of his own original compositions on 1998's "Buffalo '66" soundtrack,
Gallo decided to give a musical career another shot, forming the group Bunny with actor/musician Lukas Haas.
Despite a successful Japanese tour and a debut album completed for Sony
(with renowned Yes producer Eddie Offord overseeing the recording),
the group split up, resulting in the shelving of the debut's release.
After relocating to Los Angeles, Gallo began laying down solo demos at his home recording studio,
which attracted the attention of Warp Records.
The early 21st century saw the release of such critically acclaimed solo Gallo full-lengths
as 2001's "When" and 2002's "Recordings Of Music For Film".
Gallo's films possess a cult following, especially in Japan and his work has proven largely polarizing among film critics,
but has been highly praised by many filmmakers and actors.

Arri Bertoia (March 10, 1915 – November 6, 1978) was an Italian-born American artist,
sound art sculptor, and modern furniture designer.
Bertoia was born in the small village of San Lorenzo, Friuli, Italy.
At age 15, given the opportunity to move to Detroit, and live with his older brother, Oreste.
Upon entering North America, his nickname of Arieto (little Arri) was altered to the Americanized Harry.
After learning English and the bus schedule, he enrolled in Cass Technical High School,
where he studied art and design and learned the skill of handmade jewelry making.
In 1936 he attended the Art School of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, now known as the College for Creative Studies.
The following year in 1937 he received a scholarship to study at the Cranbrook Academy of Art
where he encountered Walter Gropius, Edmund N. Bacon, Ray and Charles Eames, and Florence Knoll for the first time.
In 1939 after reopening the metal workshop, he began to focus his efforts on jewelry making,
even designing and creating wedding rings for Ray Eames and Edmund Bacon's wife Ruthtaught,
as the war effort made metal a rare and very expensive commodity.
When all the metal was taken up by war efforts, he became the graphics instructor.
Still at Cranbrook, in 1943 he married Brigitta Valentiner, and then moved to California
to work for Charles and Ray at the Molded Plywood Division of the Evans Product Company.
Bertoia also learned welding techniques at Santa Monica College and began experimenting with sound sculptures.
He worked there until 1946, then sold his jewelry and monotypes and worked with the Electronics Naval Lab in La Jolla.
In 1950, he was invited to move to Pennsylvania to work with Hans and Florence Knoll.
During this period he designed five wire pieces that became known as the Bertoia Collection for Knoll
Among these was the famous diamond chair, a fluid, sculptural form made from a welded lattice work of steel.
In his own words, "If you look at these chairs, they are mainly made of air, like sculpture. Space passes right through them."
The commercial success enjoyed by Bertoia's diamond chair was immediate.
It was only in 2005 that his asymmetrical chaise longue was introduced at the Milan Furniture Fair and sold out immediately.
In the 1960s, he began experimenting with sounding sculptures of tall vertical rods on flat bases.
He renovated the old barn into an atypical concert hall and put in about 100 of his favorite "Sonambient" sculptures.
Their sizes vary from a few inches all the way up to twenty feet tall.
Many metals were used for the rods, the most common being beryllium copper
known for its wide range of color variations and rich tones.
Some rods are capped with cylinders or drops of metal, resembling cattails,
which, by their weight, accentuate the swaying of the tonal rods and creating deep resonant tones.
Bertoia often recorded his sound experiments using overhead microphones and a 1/4" tape recorder.
He played the pieces in a number of concerts and even produced a series of eleven albums, all entitled "Sonambient,"
of the music made by his art, manipulated by his hands along with the elements of nature.
In 2016, these "Sonambient" recordings were re-issued by Important Records
as a box set with a booklet of the history and previously unseen photos.
Three major documentaries featuring the barn and other pieces were released about Bertoia.
Learning of the dismal diagnosis of cancer in 1976 caused Bertoia to work furiously on organizing his monotypes,
perfecting the tonal barn collection, and putting his life’s work in order.
He had produced probably tens of thousands of pieces of art during his short life.
His work had consumed most of his time, much of his passion, and ultimately all of his energy.
The toxic fumes such as from the beryllium copper he so loved contributed to the lung cancer.
Yet, his death was peaceful, he felt complete, and he accepted dying as simply one more transitional part of life.
Harry Bertoia died at age 63 on November 6th, 1978 in his home,
and was buried beneath a giant gong behind his Sonambient barn.
The compilation "Unfolding" features two of the eleven albums of the "Sonambient" series,
"Unfolding / Sounds Beyond" and "Here And Now / Unknown" that was originally released on vinyl in 1978.

Άρης Ρέτσος – Σοφοκλέους Αντιγόνη (1995)

Country: Greece

Tracklist
1. Σοφοκλέους Αντιγόνη 01:14:08

Aris Retsos was born in Alexandria, Egypt in 1957 and studied acting at the Veakis School in Athens.
Between 1981 and 1986 he appeared in the films "Oi Apenanti" and "Mania" directed by Giorgos Panousopoulos,
"Bordelo" directed by Nikos Koundouros, "I Fotografia" directed by Nikos Papatakis,
a film considered to be inside the top ten of the Greek cinema,
and in the tv movie "Xoma Kai Nero" directed by Fotis Vianelis.
He became widely known to the public through the part of the consumptive young man Paspatis,
in the television series "Astrofeggia" (1981), based on a novel by I.M.Panagiotopoulos.
In 1986 though, the promising, upcoming young star Aris Retsos,
made a very unusual choice and decided to retire from the movie and theater business.
He became involved in deep and systematic research of the rules and techniques of acting in general,
and with special emphasis given on the Ancient Greek Drama.
At that time, he also started his practice at the martial art of Tai chi.
In 1993, after seven years of retirement, he returns to the theater, with a solo performance entitled "Anoixti Dokimi".
There, in "EMPROS" theater in central Athens, having only one stringed musical instrument accompanying him,
he recites excerpts from the Greek tragedy "Ajax" by Sophocles in ancient Greek and in a way never heard before.
During that performance, it became vividly understood for the first time, that the musical measures, pace and rhythm, define completely not only the way of acting in the Ancient Greek Drama, but also the direction, the choreography etc.
This totally new proposal, after the initial surprise, was very well received by the audience.
The famous Greek composer Manos Xatzidakis, having watched the performance, immediately asked Aris Retsos
to record "Ajax" and publicize it through the avant-garde record company "Seirios" that he managed those days.
In 1994, Aris Retsos chooses for his debut in theater direction
the highly praised contemporary Greek one act play "To Tavli" (The Backgammon) by Dimitris Kexaidis.
In 1995 he founds the theater company "Polionimo" (the one with the many names) and presents in "Sfendoni" theater
the performance "Antigonis Xoros" (chorus of Antigone) based on "Antigone" by Sophocles
and exploring the central part of the "Chorus" in Ancient Greek Drama.
At the same period he released the CD "Σοφοκλέους Αντιγόνη" that features a live recording performance
at "Sfendoni" theater and comes inside a box with a cloth bound book of the performance text.
In 1996 he appears in the international poetry festival "Myrisai To Ariston" (Smell The Excellent),
directed by Maya Liberopoulou, in Herodes Atticus Odeon, with a performance based on "Ajax" by Sophocles.
In 1998 he participates in the international theater festival "The Ancient Drama In The East"
organized by the European Cultural Center of Delphi, with the performance "Antigonis Xoros".
In 1998 he presents the performance "Strofes - Antistrofes" (Verses and Counter-verses) based also on plays by Sophocles.
During this performance, the musical orchestra "Nikos Skalkotas"
played music by Ianis Xenakis under the direction of Miltos Logiadis.
Between 1993 and 2001, Aris Retsos, appeared in many cultural events and festivals all around Greece
and was invited by the German - Greek theater festival of Koln, where he presented the performance "Strofes - Antistrofes".
Since 2001, Aris Retsos has adopted a completely new approach concerning his research of the acting technique.
He has concentrated on the modern Greek language, and has been examining the possibility of transferring
the musical rhythm and measures from the ancient Greek language to the modern,
a transfer which is not academic and arbitrary, but organic and meaningful, and actually raises the quality
and gives answers to the questions of acting in the Ancient Greek Drama and in general.
Based on the knowledge accumulated by this longtime research,
in 2008, he directs and plays in the solo performance "Aima Kako" (Bad Blood),
based on the first chapter of the poem of Arthur Rimbaud "Season In Hell" in a modern Greek language translation.
On the July 5th 2011, invited by the Greek Festival he directs, the performance "Thronos Atreidon
(The Throne Of The Atreus Family) in Herodes Atticus Odeon, based on excerpts of Sophocles and Aeschylus
relevant to the legend of the Atreus family, in the modern Greek language and with the cooperation of twenty actors.
He is also in charge of the music selection, the scenography, the costumes and the choreography.
In front of a large audience this time, the vast possibilities offered by the musical measures and rhythms
of the plays for the upgrading and evolving of contemporary art, became crystal clear and understood.
In 2013, he directs and appears in the solo performance "Epea Pteroenta" (Words That Fly),
where he recites for the first time ever and in a completely new way, monologues from Aeschylus and Sophocles,
and not only parts of the Chorus as he used to do up to then.

Experimental/ambient music trio consisting of Kato Hideki (bass guitar), Ikue Mori (drum machines), and Fred Frith (guitar).
Death Ambient was formed by Hideki and Mori in 1995 and released three albums,
"Death Ambient" (1995), "Synaesthesia" (1999) and "Drunken Forest" (2007).
Kato Hideki, a Japanese bass guitarist and founding member of Ground Zero, moved to New York City in 1992.
He started working with Christian Marclay, Marc Ribot, John Zorn and also collaborated with Dying Ground.
In 1995, he began collaborating with Ikue Mori, who had been the drummer for DNA.
After DNA disbanded, Mori experimented with modified drum machines to play samples of music,
before shifting entirely to laptop computer-based music creation.
Guitarist Fred Frith (of Henry Cow), who had lived in New York City for fourteen years
and collaborated with many experimental music musicians, was invited by Mori and Hideki to the join the group.
According to Mori, the aim of Death Ambient was "to create sounds and texture extravaganza.".
Death Ambient recorded their first self titled album at Green Point Studio in Brooklyn in 1995,
featuring a collection of improvised pieces that included Mori's drum machine generated sound samples.
The album was released the same year in the New Japan series on John Zorn's Tzadik record label.
In 1997 guitarist James Plotkin temporarily replaced Frith for a UK tour that included concerts in London and Stirling.
The London concert was broadcast on BBC Radio 3's show, Mixing It.
Frith rejoined Death Ambient in 1998 and the trio gave a concert in Halle, Germany.
It was the first time the original trio had performed together as a group outside the recording studio.
In June 1999 they returned to New York City to record their second album "Synaesthesia",
using material from the concert in Germany.
In May 2007, after six years in the making, "Drunken Forest" was released,
also in Tzadik's New Japan series, with Jim Pugliese as a guest percussionist.
The trio (without Pugliese) performed the album live
at John Zorn's not-for-profit experimental music performance space, The Stone, on May 4 and 5, 2007.
