"Don't Go In The House" (originally titled "The Burning") is a 1979 American slasher film
written and directed by Joseph Ellison, written by Ellen Hammill and Joe Masefield and starring Dan Grimaldi.
Its plot follows a disturbed man who, after suffering an abusive childhood in which his mother punished him with burning,
becomes a pyromaniac and serial killer who kidnaps and burns alive any women who resemble her.
Filmed in the historic Strauss Mansion in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey from February–March 1979,
"Don't Go In The House" was released one year later in the spring of 1980, and was met with sharp criticism from film critics
due to its violence, particularly a sequence in which the protagonist burns a nude woman alive with a flamethrower.
The film score was composed by American composer of contemporary classical music Richard Einhorn (born 1952).
Einhorn graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University in 1975
and studied composition and electronic music with Jack Beeson, Vladimir Ussachevsky and Mario Davidovsky.
His best-known work, "Voices Of Light" (1994), is an oratorio scored for soloists, chorus, orchestra and a bell.
It was inspired by Dreyer's film "The Passion Of Joan Of Arc" (1928) and it has been performed while the film is screened.
He has also composed many horror and thriller film scores, including "Shock Waves" (1977), "Eyes Of A Stranger" (1981),
"The Prowler" (1981), "Dead Of Winter" (1987), "Blood Rage" (1987), "Sister, Sister" (1987) and "Dark Tower" (1989).
Einhorn for "Don't Go In The House" used his ARP 2600 and ARP Omni synthesizers and a Tascam 8-track recorder.
He recorded the score at his home studio without any ability to sync the music to the film.
The soundtrack was released for the first time ever by Waxwork Records in 2019 as a double LP
and later on CD by Howlin' Wolf Records in 2021.
