Lucifer’s Hammer was formed in Michigan in 1986 and remained active until 2004.
The band was prominent unit in the Midwest underground,
playing numerous regional gigs and routinely featured in the lineup of the Michigan Deathfest.
At the beginning their sound was more thrash/death-oriented,
but as the band evolved, it gravitated toward a darker black/death metal sound.
By the mid 1990s, Lucifer’s Hammer was part of a circle that included such bands as Summon,
Masochist and Wind Of The Black Mountains, all of which at some point shared members with Lucifer’s Hammer.
Lucifer’s Hammer was among the first American bands to play death metal suffused with the atmospheric darkness
and savage ferocity associated with the then-emerging black metal movement.
Unfortunately they never signed a contract and after the release of five demos (one of them being a live recording)
and two full length albums ("The Mists Of Time" in 1997 and "Ghosts Of Fall" in 2001) they disbanded.
In 2014 Destro Records re-released "The Mists Of Time" on CD
while in 2021 Nuclear War Now! Productions re-released on vinyl the majority of their demos.

and the percussionist John Murphy (July 11, 1959 - October 11, 2015, ex-SPK, ex-The Associates, ex-Current 93),
with the help of the Strength Through Joy duo (Timothy Jenn - Richard Leviathan) and Campbell Finley on trumpet,
recording under the name Scorpion Wind, released in 1996 on NER.
The album consists of Boyd Rice's spoken-word lyrics on subjects ranging from Social Darwinism to alcohol
with backing music in various styles, including lounge and neofolk.
Recorded in Australia prior to the pair (Boyd / Douglas) starring in the cult film "Pearls Before Swine",
it is a unique, melodic and richly orchestrated ode to the decay of civilization and the death of heroes and gods.
In 2007 Nerus digitally remastered the album and re-released it on CD format
including two extra tracks from the era with new artwork, presented in a red and black foil-blocked softpak.

The Order Of The NCS was a ritual side project of Doc Hammer and his then-wife Lisa Hammer
mostly known from their other band Mors Syphilitica.
Lisa Hammer (aka Lisa Houle) is an American filmmaker, actress, composer and singer
and is the sister of director James Merendino.
Eric Hammer (aka Doc Hammer) is an American voice actor, musician, writer and artist,
that he performed with Lisa Hammer in the bands Requiem In White (1985 -1995) and Mors Syphilitica (1995 - 2002).
The Order Of The NCS existed between the demise of their band Requiem In White and the creation of Mors Syphilitica.
The project was intended to be a spiritual movement, and had one live performance in Soho, NY in 1994.
Only one album was released in 1994 on Sacrum Torch label entitled "Music From The Rituals Of The New Poison
with the music been composed and performed by Lisa Hammer and Eric Hammer.
The album, which Eric Hammer later admitted was "very personal, it had no business being released",
was written solely as music for him to paint to, and recorded on a partially broken 4-track in their home.
The fold-out liner notes of the CD contains several of his paintings, as well as the rituals themselves.
