Het Zweet was an experimental/ritualistic/tribal/industrial project
created by Marien Van Oers and formed in Breda, Netherlands.
Active since early to late 80s Marien started the project as a duo with Eric Haamers
under the name Forced Run and released their self-titled cassette in 1982 on Marien's own DIY label Het Zweet,
which later next year transformed into Zweepslag in order to release his first solo tapes.
Forced Run gradually turned into Het Zweet and released material on such legendary labels
as Staaltape and Dossier while also appeared on many international compilations.
Het Zweet music consisted of percussion pieces played upon organic noises, ritualistic-ambiance, soundscapes
and mantras intended to produce trance-like effects via rhythm and repetition.
Music was played on self-built instruments (shopping trolleys, blown cardboard tubes etc.)
with Marien's own vocals and extra pre-recorded sounds.
The music was often placed in the industrial camp and linked with the likes of Test Dept. and Z'EV.
Het Zweet's trip lasted until 1988, when Marien eliminated all public music activities.
Since then he was recording only for himself and this period (1992-2012) can be heard on the compilation
"Compilatie Blue Room" released by his friend Mark Rietveld (Mor Time D'or),
after Marien passed away on January 8, 2013.
"Het Zweet" was the only material by Marien that was released on vinyl and in 2022 was remastered and reissued
with five bonus tracks by Klanggalerie on CD and by Staalplaat on double LP.
The Memory link contains as bonus the excellent "Massive Trance" cassette that was released in 1983.

"Eraserhead" is a 1977 American surrealist horror film written, directed, produced, and edited by David Lynch.
Lynch also created its score and sound design, which included pieces by a variety of other musicians.
Shot in black and white, it was Lynch's first feature-length effort following several short films.
Starring Jack Nance, Charlotte Stewart, Jeanne Bates, Judith Anna Roberts, Laurel Near, and Jack Fisk
it tells the story of a man who is left to care for his grossly deformed child in a desolate industrial landscape.
The soundtrack of the film was composed by David Lynch and Alan R. Splet
and was originally released via I.R.S. Records on LP in the United States on June 15, 1982 with 5 tracks.
Alan R. Splet (December 31, 1939 – December 2, 1994) was an American sound designer and sound editor
known for his collaborations with director David Lynch on "The Elephant Man", "Dune" and "Blue Velvet".
Due to being legally blind, Splet rarely traveled and mainly worked from Berkeley, California.
In 1980, he won an Oscar for his work on the film "The Black Stallion"
and was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound Mixing for "Never Cry Wolf".
The mood and tone of "Eraserhead" and its soundtrack were influenced by Philadelphia's post-industrial history.
Lynch lived in the city while studying painting at the Pennsylvania Academy Of Fine Arts
and was fascinated by its feeling of constant danger, describing it both as a:
"sick, twisted, violent, fear ridden, decaying place" and "beautiful, if you see it the right way.".
Lynch and Splet used avant-garde approaches to recording on the soundtrack,
including crafting almost every sound in the soundtrack from scratch using bizarre methods.
The ambiance of the love scene in the movie, for example,
was produced by recording air blown through a microphone as it sat inside a bottle floating in a bathtub.
Lynch and Splet worked "9 hours a day for 63 days" to produce the soundtrack and all of the sound effects in the film.
Splet recalls the sound effects Lynch called on him to produce for "Eraserhead" as "snapping, humming, buzzing, banging, like lightning, shrieking, squealing” over the five years it took to produce the film and its soundtrack.
Also during the production of the soundtrack, Lynch drew two telephone wires for Splet,
each line indicating between four and five pitches he wanted to be represented in the movie's music and sound effects.
When Splet played Lynch pipe organ parts from American jazz pianist, organist, Thomas Wright "Fats" Waller
(May 21, 1904 – December 15, 1943) as soundtrack material, Lynch was immediately confident in the pipe-organ style,
stating that he had "never listened to any other kind of music for ("Eraserhead"). I knew that was it."
Except the excerpts of organ music by Fats Waller the soundtrack also included piano parts by Phil Worde
and the song "In Heaven (Lady In The Radiator Song)",
written for the film and sang by Peter Scott Ivers (September 20, 1946 – March 3, 1983).

better known from his band Blut Aus Nord among his other acts.
Much like the early Blut Aus Nord albums, Vindsval recorded everything on his own,
and the style of music is quite similar to that of the first Blut Aus Nord albums,
meaning dark, repetitive compositions of cold, hypnotic black metal.
In its short lived existence The Eye released a demo in 1996 entitled "Normanniska"
and a full length album in 1997 on the French label Velvet Music International entitled "Supremacy".
In 2014 there was a rumor that Vindsval had reformed the project
this time with the help of Tor-Helge Skei (aka Cernunnus of Manes, Manii) but no news have surfaced since then.

Namanax was the project of multi-instrumentalist Bill Yurkiewicz, co-founder of Relapse Records
and musician performing in grindcore, metal, industrial and noise bands, who operated his studio in Pennsylvania.
With Namanax Yurkiewicz tried to produce loud noise through the layering of multiple sources of sound.
His first two albums, "Multi-Phase Electrodynamics" (Release, 1993)
and "Cascading Waves Of Electronic Turbulence" (Release, 1996) were recorded live
and were notable mainly for their intensity.
On his third release, "Audiotronic" (Release, 1997), Yurkiewicz was joined by guitarist/producer James Plotkin
and Kipp Johnson on the synthesizers/samples.
The album contains five lengthy pieces inspired by soundtracks of monster movies.
"Audiotronic" increases the doses of guitar experimentation and the creation of dark textures
but also toning down the noise violence.
Their last album, "Monstrous" (Release, 1998), was basically a continuation of "Audiotronic" featuring four long tracks.
Namanax was also featured on the soundtrack of the 1997 film "Gummo" with the track "The Medicine Man".
At the same period Bill Yurkiewicz was also involved in a side-project with Kipp Johnson
and the help of James Plotkin, named Solarus.

During the summer of 1994 they changed their name to Arkham and joined by Vincent (Drums) and Joachim (2nd Guitar).
In winter of 1995 Mathieu (Synths) and Marion (Female Vocals) recruited but Joachim left the band.

By the end of 1999 Lord Von Carthasis had left the band as he preferred to devote himself to his projects

The Pit And The Pendulum is a 1961 horror film directed by Roger Corman,
starring Vincent Price, Barbara Steele, John Kerr, and Luana Anders.
The screenplay by Richard Matheson was loosely inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's 1842 short story of the same name.
The film was the second title in the popular series of Poe adaptations released by American International Pictures,
the first having been Corman's House Of Usher released the previous year.
Like House, the film features widescreen cinematography by Floyd Crosby,
sets designed by art director Daniel Haller, and a film score composed by Les Baxter.
A critical and box-office hit, Pit's success convinced AIP and Corman to continue adapting Poe stories
for another six films, five of them starring Vincent Price.
The series ended in 1965 with the release of The Tomb Of Ligeia.
Film critics have noted the film's strong influence on numerous subsequent Italian thrillers,
from Mario Bava's The Whip And The Body (1963) to Dario Argento's Deep Red (1975).
Stephen King has described one of Pit's major shock sequences
as being among the most important moments in post-1960 horror film.
Leslie Thompson "Les" Baxter (March 14, 1922 – January 15, 1996) was a best-selling American musician and composer.
After working as an arranger and composer for swing bands,
he developed his own style of easy listening music, known as Exotica and scored over 100 motion pictures.
Baxter studied piano at the Detroit Conservatory before moving to Los Angeles at Pepperdine College.
From 1943 on he played tenor and baritone saxophone for the Freddie Slack big band.
Abandoning a concert career as a pianist, he turned to popular music as a singer.
In 1950 Baxter started arranging and conducting for Capitol Records
and conducted the orchestra in two early Nat King Cole hits, "Mona Lisa" and "Too Young".
He also recorded Yma Sumac's first album: "Voice Of The Xtabay",
which can be considered one of the first recordings of Exotica.
In 1951 he made the original recording of "Quiet Village" which years later became a hit for Martin Denny.
In 1953 he scored his first movie, the sailing travelogue Tanga Tika.
With his own orchestra, he released a number of hits including "Ruby" (1953), "Unchained Melody" (1955),
"The Poor People Of Paris" (1956) and "Sinner Man" (1956).
"Unchained Melody" was the first million seller for Baxter and was awarded a gold disc.
"The Poor People Of Paris" also sold over one million copies.
He also achieved success with concept albums of his own orchestral suites: Le Sacre Du Sauvage, Festival Of The Gnomes,
Ports Of Pleasure, and Brazil Now, the first three for Capitol and the fourth on Gene Norman's Crescendo label.
The list of musicians on these recordings includes Plas Johnson and Clare Fischer.
Baxter also wrote the "Whistle" theme from the TV show Lassie.
In the 1960s, he formed the Balladeers, a conservative folk group in suits that at one time featured a young David Crosby.
Later he used some of the same singers from that group for a studio project called The Forum.
He worked in radio as musical director of The Halls Of Ivy and the Bob Hope and Abbott And Costello shows.
Like his counterparts Henry Mancini and Lalo Schifrin, Baxter worked in films in the 1960s and 1970s.
He worked on movie scores for B-movie studio American International Pictures
where he composed scores for Roger Corman's Edgar Allan Poe films and other horror and beach party films
including House Of Usher, The Pit And The Pendulum, The Raven, Muscle Beach Party and Beach Blanket Bingo.
He also composed a new score for the theatrical release of the 1970 horror film Cry Of The Banshee
after AIP rejected Wilfred Josephs's original one.
Howard W. Koch recalled that Baxter composed, orchestrated and recorded
the entire score of The Yellow Tomahawk (1954) in a total of three hours for $5,000.
When soundtrack work fell off in the 1980s, he scored music for theme parks such as SeaWorld.

The Holy Mountain (Spanish: La Montaña Sagrada) is a 1973 Mexican surreal-fantasy film
directed, written, produced, co-scored, co-edited by and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky,
who also participated as a set designer and costume designer on the film.
Following Jodorowsky's underground hit El Topo, acclaimed by both John Lennon and George Harrison,
the film was produced by The Beatles manager Allen Klein of ABKCO Music And Records.
Lennon and Yoko Ono put up production money and the film was shown at various international film festivals in 1973,
including Cannes and limited screenings in New York and San Francisco.
The film is based on Ascent Of Mount Carmel by John Of The Cross
and Mount Analogue by René Daumal, who was a student of George Gurdjieff.
In this film, much of Jodorowsky's visually psychedelic story follows the metaphysical thrust of Mount Analogue.
This is revealed in such events as the climb to the alchemist, the assembly of individuals with specific skills,
the discovery of the mountain that unites Heaven and Earth "that cannot not exist"
and symbolic challenges along the mountain ascent.
Daumal died before finishing his allegorical novel, and Jodorowsky's improvised ending
provides a way of completing the work (both symbolically and otherwise).
Before the principal photography would commence,
Jodorowsky and his wife spent a week without sleep under the direction of a Japanese Zen master.
Members of the cast spent three months doing various spiritual exercises guided by Oscar Ichazo of the Arica Institute.
The Arica training features Zen, Sufi and yoga exercises along with eclectic concepts drawn from the Kabbalah,
the I Ching and the teachings of George Gurdjieff.
After the training, the group lived for one month communally in Jodorowsky's home before production.
Thereafter, the filming started in early 1972 and was shot sequentially, entirely in Mexico, at a budget of $750,000.
Jodorowsky was also instructed by Ichazo to take LSD for the purpose of spiritual exploration.
He also administered psilocybin mushrooms to the actors during the shooting of the death-rebirth scene.
The film was completed just in time for the 1973 Cannes Film Festival, where it was much awaited.
Jodorowsky edited out twenty minutes of dialogue, with the intention of removing as much dialogue as he could.
The film had its premiere at Waverly Theatre, an art house movie theater in New York City on 29 November 1973,
where it had restricted run at midnights on Friday and Saturday for sixteen months.
It was also shown at Filmex on 30 March 1974, which was described as the "American premiere".
At a few places it was released as a double bill with Jodorowsky's 1970 film El Topo
and eventually became a cult film with its influence on popular culture.

Country: Norway

Tracklist

Thy Grief was formed in the beginning of 1995 with the wish to create music
that combined darkness and rawness atmospheric harmonies.
It was also essential to put effort into improving the quality of their music and the sound as well,
and at the same time still hold on to the genre.
Lyrically Thy Grief is pure fictional with aspects to bring the music and lyrics closer together
through describing the emotions experienced within.
In August 1995 Thy Grief entered a studio to record the debut demo called "A Frozen Realm"
with Kim Anders Johannessen (guitar, keys), Kjetil Monsen (bass), Ken Larsen (guitar, keys) and Roald Fosse (vocals).
As the band had no permanent drummer at the time, Vrolok of Aeternus helped out with the drums on the recording.
The demo was recorded and mixed in four days in a 16-track studio.
Despite the short period the demo attained very good sound quality and received good responds.
As a result in May 1996 Thy Grief signed a two album record contract with the German label Solistitium Records.
At the time there were some line up problems when Ken and Roald left the band
and two new members had to be recruited.
This turned out to be Christer Korsvold (bass, keys) and Frode Gaustad (drums).
The new line up caused a delay due to rehearsals
as the recording of the debut album was originally scheduled to begin in August 1996.
Finally, in February 1997, Thy Grief could enter the studio to record their debut album "The Frozen Tomb Of Mankind".
The album was recorded in a 16-track digital studio containing nine tracks
and is a pointer to the high potential of Thy Grief could have.
After the recording of the album Christer left the band as he felt he couldn't express his music.
Some musical disputes were also present.
There were plans for a second album with half of the new songs been composed,
based on a slower tempo and given more weight on the melodic parts of the music,
and with the intention to to enter the recording studio in August-September of 1998,
but this never happened and the band split up around 1999 - 2000.

5. The Battló House #1 09:33

Noise Maker's Fifes was a Belgian experimental/improvised music collective
that was formed in 1990 by Geert Feytons and Timo Van Luijk.
Their music was created by a variety of often self-made instruments
in combination with electronics, effects and environmental sound recordings.
During its 17 years of existence the group underwent a big evolution.
They started solely as a music group and gradually became more multidisciplinary
incorporating video, dance, sound installations and performance in order to create complex audio visual events.
In 1993 Greg Jacobs joined the group and sound engineer Eric Faes became a regular member until 1998.
In 1996 Timo Van Luijk moved to the background to concentrate on his personal musical work
and Marc Wroblewski appeared in the fixed NMF line-up.
NMF slowly grew out to an audio visual unit working with many different artists depending on the nature of the projects.
All video work, where surreal imagery and visualisation of sound play an important role, was realised by Geert Feytons.
Ciro Carcatella, Vilbjorg Broch and Stella Spitaleri were mostly responsible for the performance and dance aspect
while the sound installations were conceived and created by Marc Wroblewski and Geert Feytons, the core of NMF.
The regular participants for the musical part, depending on the project were Greg Jacobs,
Timo Van Luijk, Bryan Seating, Luc Van Lieshout and Michael Prime.
Other guests for specific projects were Miet Brands, Laura Maes, Jacques Brodier,
Hans Van Koolwijk, Daniel Denis and others.
Improvised music, mostly on self made instruments, structured within a visual frame
remained a constant in the NMF creations and especially the visual aspect became more and more sophisticated.
For the construction of the instruments and the autonomously functioning sound sculptures and installations,
materials as cords, recycled metal, glass, wood, stones, liquids were used.
The video work was determined by the desire to visualize different sound sources
and to use images in which sounds manifested themselves.
The last few years Marc and Geert also concentrated on pure audio-visual installations (eg. Naos).
NMF created about 10 major audio visual projects
and over the last decade the group toured extensively throughout Europe in different configurations.
Apart from their proper activities the group was also active creating music for dance.
About 20 titles (CD's, 7", 10") got released on various international labels.
With the death of Geert Feytons in 2006,
the other members decided to stop working under the NMF banner and formed the group Onde.
However, they also decided to preserve all existing audio and video material
and to release archival material on a regular basis.

Cromagnon was an American experimental band that was active during the late 1960s.
Led by multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriters Austin Grasmere and Brian Elliot,
the band released their one and only self-titled album
(later reissued as "Cave Rock" and also as "Orgasm") in 1969 on the ESP-Disk record label.
Cromagnon is said to have foreshadowed the rise of noise rock, no wave and industrial rock genres
that came into existence in the following decades.
Their album combined psychedelia, folk rock and noise with primitive instrumentation (including sticks and stones).
It was recorded at A-1 Sound Studio in the Upper West Side of New York City in 1969.
Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound" technique, of which producer Brian Elliot was a fan, heavily influenced the album's sound.
During recording, band members brought in random people from the street and asked them to contribute to the album.
The result was a non-linear journey through the subconscious,
weaving together bizarre instrumentation and meter with a psychotic blending of musical styles.
Bagpipes, pounding percussion, blood-curdling yelps, tribal chanting, laughing, and billowing subterranean rumblings
create the otherworldly soundscape of an album that was ridiculously ahead of its time.
