The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud – The Smell Of Blood But Victory (1997)

Country: Austria

Tracklist
1 - 24 Untitled 01:33:42

Founded in Austria in 1993, The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud was a medieval martial ambient project
formed by musician Albin Julius (also in Der Blutharsch) and vocalist Alzbeth.
The music was all created electronically, shifting in style from pure ambient soundscapes to pounding martial anthems,
while the vocals ranged from soothing ethereal love songs to shouted declarations of war
and European medievalism including ritual, clerical chants.
When performing live, the band often played in old churches, fortresses, medieval prisons
and theaters that provided an appropriate atmosphere for their static, militaristic performances.
All the bands releases were through their own personal label Arthur's Round Table
which was based in Switzerland, and distributed by World Serpent.
With each release the band presented themes traveling further into European history
and becoming more martial, choral and bombastic in approach, culminating in their final album,
the largely World War II-inspired The Smell Of Blood But Victory
which was released as a limited edition box of 2000 copies including CD, a bonus MCD and a poster.
The group disbanded in 1998 after Albin's and Alzbeth's partnership broke up.
In 2000 Alzbeth released ART 13, which is a complete book of lyrics, photographs and references
for the historical themes used by the band. This book is stated to be the final word in the project.

Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra was the dark project of Knjaz Varggoth
(also the leader of the Kharkiv band Nokturnal Mortum).
As Knjaz Varggoth needed a project to express his most inner feelings and thoughts,
he was the sole member of the band that written and recorded the music for the project.
His first albums were fully instrumental acts stretching more towards the ambient genre.
In the autumn of 1998 Knjaz Varggoth recorded "The Key To The Gates Of Apocalypses",

an one-track concept album that totals over 70 minutes long.
This can be regarded as a mixture of black metal and strangulating dark ambience.
The CD was released by The End Records.

Nature And Organisation was formed by English composer and musician Michael Cashmore in the early 80's.
The music of the band is characterized by a mix of acoustic, classical
and folk structures met with abrasive electronic instrumentation.
Cashmore has also been a member of the group Current 93 since the late 1980s
and wrote most of the music after the departure of Douglas Pearce in the 1990s.
For several years
he had been experimenting with a mix of acoustic instruments, tape recorders and super 8mm film
and in 1983 the name Nature And Organisation was first used for a small series of live performances and recordings.
The recording of early material was primarily made using a 4 track tape machine
with only a small ammount of works recorded in professional studios.
It was only much later, in 1994, that the first proper release was made available.
This was the album "Beauty Reaps The Blood Of Solitude" which featured vocals and texts by Douglas Pearce,
David Tibet, Rose McDowall and also Steven Stapleton on guitars.
This was followed in the same year by the 4 track EP "A Dozen Summers Against The World".
After joining Current 93 Nature And Organisation became more of a side project for
Cashmore
and the final album "Death In A Snow Leopard Winter", a collection of instrumental pieces, was released in 1998.

Dunkelheit (aka Dunkel:heit) started out in the summer of '92 as a part-time industrial-style project
containing members from the industrial metal band Red Harvest.
After recording some songs, they decided to keep going and started recruiting more members.
Around a year later they recorded a demo on an 8-track recorder.
Instead of pushing their demo heavily around, they band started playing with the idea of doing a compilation CD.
The CD, entitled "The Reincarnation Of The Sun", was released in February 1994 by Dunkel Prod.
and contained (mostly) exclusive material from Red Harvest, Anstalt, Valhall, Dunkelheit, Remyl, Piledriver and Humid.
Shortly after this release, Suggestion Records got in touch with the band and offered a deal for a 7" EP.

"More Than Meets The Third Eye" was recorded with four new songs and released in the summer of '94.
Pleased with the result of this 7" EP, Suggestion offered a deal for a full-length CD.
The material was recorded in March '95, and the CD "Obey" was released in the end of the summer '95.
Since then the project was put on hold.

Golden Dawn is an Austrian band formed by Stefan Traunmüller (aka Dreamlord),
originally as a one-man black metal project, in 1992.
After a demo and one split release the band attracted the attention of two influential Austrian metallists,
Ray Wells of Pazuzu and Martin Schirenc of Pungent Stench and Hollenthon
which led to a compilation appearance and eventually a recording contract with Dark Matter Records.
Traunmüller recorded his debut album, The Art of Dreaming, while still a one-man band,
but with session help from Thomas Tannenberger of Abigor and Martin Schirenc.
The blend of medieval-sounding keyboards, harsh black metal with blast beats and high screams
and some dreamy ambient parts was very innovative at that time.
Dark Matter soon folded, however, and it was not until seven years later that the band,
now consisting of four members, recorded its next album, Masquerade, with Napalm Records.
In January 2012, the new album, Return To Provenance, was released on Non Serviam Records.
