Burzum ‎– Hvis Lyset Tar Oss (1994)

1. Det Som En Gang Var 14:21
2. Hvis Lyset Tar Oss 08:04
3. Inn I Slottet Fra Drømmen 07:51
4. Tomhet 14:12

"Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" is the third studio album by Norwegian black metal solo project Burzum
It was recorded in September 1992, but was not released until April 1994,
whereupon it was released through Misanthropy Records and Vikernes' own record label, Cymophane Productions.
Varg Vikernes recorded the first four Burzum albums between '92 and '93 at the GriegHallen studio.
However, the releases were spread out, with many months between the recording and the release of each album.
By that time Vikernes became a part of the Norwegian black metal scene and befriended Mayhem guitarist Euronymous
The two developed a feud that culminated in Vikernes stabbing Euronymous to death in his apartment in August 1993.
He was arrested a few days later and was sentenced to 21 years in prison for murder and several church arsons.
The album cover features a drawing by 19th century artist Theodor Kittelsen named Fattigmannen (The Pauper).
Vikernes dedicated the album to Fenriz of fellow Norwegian black metal band Darkthrone
and Demonaz from Norwegian black metal band Immortal
Promotional copies sent to fanzines included the song "Et Hvitt Lys Over Skogen" instead of "Tomhet".
"Et Hvitt Lys Over Skogen" later appeared on the 1998 compilation album Presumed Guilty.
According to Vikernes,
"Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" is a concept album.

The post is dedicated to the newest and, eventually, biggest Burzum fan ever:

Thanx for the photo my friend, you must be a proud dad! \m/

In 1980 in Göteborg the band got in touch with Älgarnas Trädgård and later in the 80's the bands merged
and started Cosmic Overdose, that in its turn became Twice a Man.

Howard Leslie Shore (born October 18, 1946) is a Canadian composer, notable for his over 80 films scores.
He is also a consistent collaborator with director David Cronenberg, having scored all but one of his films since 1979.
Videodrome is a 1983 Canadian science fiction body horror film written and directed by David Cronenberg.
The original score was composed for Videodrome by Cronenberg's close friend, Howard Shore.
The score was composed to follow Max Renn's (played by James Woods) descent into video hallucinations,
starting with dramatic orchestral music that increasingly incorporates and finally emphasizes electronic instrumentation.
To achieve this Shore composed the score for an orchestra before programming it into a Synclavier II digital synthesizer.
The rendered score, taken from the Synclavier II, was then recorded being played in tandem with a small string section.
The resulting sound was a subtle blend that made it difficult to tell which sounds were real and which were synthesized.
The soundtrack was released on vinyl by Varèse Sarabande and was re-released on compact disc in 1998.
Videodrome's cult status has made it a popular source for sampling in electro-industrial, EBM and heavy metal music.

It ranked tenth on the top 1,319 sample sources list of 2004.

for the legendary Italian horror director Lucio Fulci
His soundtrack work, (featured in films such as "Zombi 2", also known as "Zombie Flesh Eaters",

"The Beyond" (original Italian title "...E Tu Vivrai Nel Terrore! L'ALDILA'",

World Serpent Distribution was a British record label and music distribution house formed in the late 80s
and was co-owned by David Gibson, Alan Trench and Alison Webster.
Douglas Pearce of Death In June coined the company name in 1991,
World Serpent being another name for Jormungandr.
World Serpent was well known for distributing music by many post-industrial, apocalyptic folk, neofolk,
avant-garde and otherwise esoteric or experimental artists, such as Death In June (through NER),
Current 93 (through Durtro), Sol Invictus (through Tursa), Coil (through Threshold House),
Nurse With Wound (through United Dairies), Zone (through Potentia), Elijah's Mantle (through De Nova Da Capo),
Orchis (through Cryptanthus), Ozymandias (through Ramses Records) and many others.
Many of these artists also ended up collaborating with or being influenced by one another,
causing the World Serpent name to become synonymous with many of the artists and labels
distributed through the company during the early 1990s.
World Serpent also functioned as a label, although they released very few records on their own.
The vast majority of the releases they distributed were on other labels & imprints.
In August 2004 World Serpent went bankrupt and was no longer operating.

Die Verbannten Kinder Evas (German for “The Banished Children of Eva”) was an Austrian band
formed in Vienna in 1993, combining the style of neoclassical darkwave music with gothic imagery.
It was created by Richard Lederer (Protector) and Michael Gregor (Silenius) from the black metal band Summoning.
The band released a debut self-titled album in March 1995,

with the assistance of Julia Lederer (Protector’s sister) and Nora El Shamah
Die verbannten Kinder Evas returned after a two-year break with “Come Heavy Sleep”.
The recording remained true to their original sound, perhaps becoming more complex and more classical in style.
The vocals are done by Julia and Richard Lederer, as Nora left the band due to lack of interest
and Silenius focused more on Summoning.
The band signed to Napalm Records in 1999 and released a third album, “In Darkness Let Me Dwell”.

With this release Die Verbannten Kinder Evas continue to make considerable use of their now trademark classical sound. Furthermore, the addition of Tania Borsky’s singing talent to Richard Lederer’s diverse vocal styles
added color and contrast to the dark tracks typical of the band.
The Die verbannten Kinder Evas’ last album, titled “Dusk and Void Became Alive” was released in November 2006,

which featured a new female singer named Christina Kroustali.

4. Ornamentation 08:08

Formed in late 1993 by Renato Gallina (percussion/vocals) and Matthew Skarajew (stringed instruments),
Trial Of The Bow emerged from the city of Melbourne, Australia's heart and melting pot of all musical forms.
While both members live and work in a metropolis, they strive to remove themselves and their listeners from this
and transport them all to places exotic with their bared-down Eastern inspired music.
The band released their one and only full-length album in 1997 called Rite Of Passage.
The two members of Trial Of the Bow were also in a doom/death metal band called Disembowelment
that was active from 1989 to 1993, while Matthew Skarajew is nowdays a member of Inverloch
(also a doom/death metal band) that was started as a project under the name d.USK.

Not much is known about this Norwegian black metal band
except that before vanishing into oblivion they released a demo that was recorded around 1995.
Their style is reminding the early releases of Satyricon (Dark Medieval Times era)
and also a little bit of Ancient (Svartalvheim-Trolltaar era).
A few months ago finally i stumbled upon a picture of their demo on the net (even that was unknown).
I really have my doubts if this is the original cover but anyway
it fits the content of the demo and helped me to make this post.
Enjoy.

Cold Meat Industry was a Swedish independent record label,
which specialized in dark ambient, death industrial, noise music and neo-classical.
It was founded by Roger Karmanik (mainly known for his project Brighter Death Now) in 1987.
At the time of its spreading popularity, end 1980s and mainly early 1990s,

the label introduced a genuine innovation in music history.
Especially within the gothic and industrial scenes, the innovations would become legendary.
In the early nineties, the phrase "Cold Meat Industry" for a while even denoted a musical genre,

that is the avantgarde genre of industrial and dark ambient.
Cruel Moon International, Death Factory, and Sound Source were some of the most known sublabels of Cold Meat Industry.
In February 2014
a notification posted on the CMI facebook page claimed the official end of the label.
The Absolute Supper released as a double cd in a quad-panel digipak and featured some of the major bands of the label.

The Wicker Man is a 1973 British horror film directed by Robin Hardy and written by Anthony Shaffer.
The soundtrack was composed, arranged and recorded by Paul Giovanni and Magnet

and contains folk songs performed by characters in the film (including some by members of the cast).
Magnet was formed for the purpose of recording the music to the movie.
The band was assembled by musician Gary Carpenter (the film's Associate Musical Director)
and also featured Giovanni on guitar and vocals for many tracks and appeared in the film in various scenes.
The songs were arranged to hint at a pre-Christian pagan European culture
and vary between traditional songs and original Giovanni compositions.
The instrumental parts of the score are based on traditional Scottish, Irish, and English tunes.
The soundtrack was unavailable until a 1998 release on Trunk Records of a mono album dubbed from the music
and effects tapes at Pinewood Studios, from the shorter original cut of the film.
It was not until 2002 that Silva Screen Records released a stereo version using cues from the tape held by Gary Carpenter, mixed with recordings from the first Trunk Records release.
A live performance of the soundtrack at the 30th annual Brosella Folk Festival in Brussels, on 8 July 2006,

underlined the cult status of the film and its music.

Impaled Nazarene is a Finnish black metal band formed in 1990, that incorporates elements of grindcore and punk rock.
They started off as a brutal black metal cover band opening for bands such as Amorphis and Sentenced

Eventually, after releasing a couple of demos the band decided to take an unusual path in black metal.
Attempting to blend top-speed brutality with humor, they released
"Goat Perversion" in 1992, followed by various other titles.
The band, however, was never able to become as popular as other acts in the genre
as it's blasphemous humor wasn't often appreciated by the fans of the style.
Impaled Nazarene was infamous for seeming to hate the Norwegian black metal scene back in the early 1990s,
but nowadays the band seems to disassociate with such hatred.
They also stopped wearing corpse paint in the mid 1990s due to it being "too trendy".
Suomi Finland Perkele is their third full-length album, the last to feature both Luttinen brothers.
